Spirited Away is a Studio Ghibli feature film written, and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, released in Japanese theaters on July 20, 2001, through Toho. While moving to a new town, 10-year-old Chihiro Ogino passes through a mysterious tunnel with her parents and ends up in what looks like an abandoned theme park town. When her parents give in to hunger and eat food from an unattended stall, they are transformed into pigs, and as dusk falls, the town reveals itself as a hot spring resort where eight million spirits come to rest. Guided by a mysterious boy named Haku, Chihiro must work at a bathhouse called Aburaya to survive, and is renamed "Sen."
