I feel like the show was suppose to end with both of the main characters during, one from his past catching up with him in a way he couldn't foresee or avoid and the other sacrificing himself to take down an opponent he couldn't defeat otherwise. Then the third main character has no choice but move …It's the anime version of Firefly. I don't, so many popular animes end up getting renewed forever long after the writers have run out of ideas and it gets boring and convoluted.
