Set in the imperial rear palace, The Apothecary Diaries follows Maomao, an apothecary who solves a string of mysteries using her knowledge of poisons and medicine. Season 2 aired across two consecutive cours starting January 10, 2025, in Nippon TV's 'Friday Anime Night' block. After the pregnancy of the emperor's favored consort Gyokuyou is discovered, Maomao returns to the Jade Pavilion as a food taster, and gets pulled into dangerous incidents involving a new consort's arrival and threats against Jinshi's life.
