💠 Introduction

"#The Elf Living in Kanagawa" (abbreviated: #KanaEru) is an anime adaptation of Yoroida-sensei's mega-popular local comedy manga.

It has an innovative premise where elves whose forest in another world was burned down have somehow settled in Kanagawa Prefecture.

Yokohama, Yokosuka, Chigasaki, Sagamihara... elves are living normally in various regions of Kanagawa.

Centered on "The Yokohama Elf" and "The Kawasaki Human," a modern fantasy comedy full of local love unfolds.

Serialization began in August 2020 on the web comic magazine "Comic ELMO," and TV anime adaptation was realized in December 2025.

"Kanagawa relatable jokes" that Kanagawa residents will definitely relate to, and the comedy born from the time perception gap between long-lived elves and humans is a must-see!

📝 Highlights & Features (Minimal Spoilers)

① Must-See for Kanagawa Residents! Packed with Local Jokes

The maze-like nature of Yokohama Station, Yurindo's domination of Kanagawa, Kiyoken's Shiumai Bento, the cat legend of Odoriba Station on Yokohama Municipal Subway Blue Line—regional customs and culture are scattered throughout.

For Kanagawa residents, it's packed with jokes that'll make you slap your knee and say "I get it!" 🗾

② The Time Perception Gap Between Elves and Humans

The perception gap born from the lifespan difference between long-lived elves and humans is the comedy's core.

"Being 30 minutes late" is "just a moment" for elves, and the elf's perspective knowing the fleeting nature of human relationships is both touching and funny 😊

③ Unique Elves

The Yokohama Elf is a "Suttoko Elf" with maxed-out self-affirmation, the Yokosuka Elf looks like a beautiful boy but inside is an old man—a "legal shota grandpa"—each region's elves are super unique.

There's even an orc from Machida 🧝

④ The Dedication of Kanagawa-born Voice Actors

The Yokohama Elf is voiced by Chiaki Kobayashi from Yokohama City, the Kawasaki Human by Yuu Hayashi from Zama City—voice actors from Kanagawa Prefecture are assembled.

The recording sessions were reportedly very lively with Kanagawa talk 🎤

⑤ Unique Live-Action × Anime Visual Expression

Using new technology called "Light Anime," it realistically shows Kanagawa Prefecture's actual streetscapes and famous spots while depicting the elves' lives.

A new sensory visual experience fusing live-action and anime ✨

① Yokohama vs Machida Rivalry Structure

The Yokohama Elf and Machida Orc are like cats and dogs.

The eternal debate of "Is Machida in Kanagawa or Tokyo?" becomes a joke, and the Sagamihara Elf is the type who claims "Machida is Kanagawa because Kanachū buses run there" 🚌

② The Identity of Minato Mirai's High Elf

The High Elf who is the Yokohama Elf's uncle is a mysterious being living in a Minato Mirai tower apartment.

His meddling side of still sending money to the Yokohama Elf is also intriguing 🏢

③ The Existence of Spirits (Mana Fairies)

The fairies visible to elves exist everywhere and tell them details about the land.

The Kawasaki Human can also see them after spending long periods in nature-rich places, since their distant ancestor was an elf 🧚

④ Dark Elves of Noge/Isezakicho

Dark elves also live in Yokohama's entertainment district area.

Each region's characteristics are reflected in elf species—pay attention to characters appearing in the future 🌃

⑤ The Future of Coexistence with Humans

In the drama version, elves who "want to become friends with humans" start a radio program.

A feeling that the anime will also depict the elves' struggles to fit into human society 📻

① From Another World to Kanagawa

The elf forest that once existed in another world was burned, and the elves fled to Earth.

For some reason they settled in Kanagawa Prefecture, now completely adapted to Reiwa-era modern society 🌲

② Through Yokohama Station's Maze to Yurindo

In Episode 1, "The Yokohama Elf" and "The Kawasaki Human" wander Yokohama Station looking for an English study guide.

After wandering through maze-like Yokohama Station, they finally reach Yurindo Ekinia Yokohama 📚

③ Encounters with Elves Across Kanagawa

Interactions expand with elves living throughout the prefecture—the Yokosuka Elf, Chigasaki Elf, Sagamihara Elf, and more.

Characters reflecting each region's characteristics are charming 🤝

④ Elf Gatherings (Weekend Tradition)

The Kawasaki Human is invited to the weekend "Elf Gathering" by the Yokohama Elf.

The deepening of their relationship is depicted 💫

⑤ Time Perception Difference with Humans

Elves who have lived long in Kanagawa harbor "a certain worry" due to lifespan differences with humans.

The sorrow of close humans aging first is also one of the work's themes 😢
