Initial D Fifth Stage is the fifth TV anime season based on the popular manga by Shuichi Shigeno, airing for 14 episodes on Animax from November 9, 2012 to May 10, 2013. Produced by SynergySP and directed by Mitsuo Hashimoto, the story follows Takumi Fujiwara, a prodigy driver and son of the former fastest racer on Akina, who has become unbeatable across Gunma prefecture behind the wheel of his Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86, nicknamed the 'Hachi-Roku.' Having graduated high school in the previous season, Fourth Stage, Takumi decided to join Project D, a special away-game team led by Red Suns' Ryosuke Takahashi. In Fifth Stage, Project D sets its sights on a new battleground: Kanagawa prefecture. On the legendary downhill course of Hakone, formidable rival crews — Team 246, Katagiri SV, and Sidewinder — rise one after another to challenge the Hachi-Roku. This entry kicks off some of the series' most intense duels as the drivers fight for the title of fastest in the Kanto region.
