Hanada Shounen-shi is a TV anime based on Makoto Isshiki's manga of the same name, which aired for 25 episodes on the Nippon TV network from October 3, 2002 to March 27, 2003. Set in a rural Japanese town in the 1970s, the story follows Ichiro Hanada, a mischievous troublemaker of a boy who is nonetheless terrified of ghosts. While fleeing from his mother after one of his pranks, he's struck by a three-wheeled truck. Though he narrowly survives, the head injury leaves him with the ability to see ghosts. From then on, Ichiro finds himself repeatedly swept into the affairs of restless spirits wandering the earth, helping them resolve their unfinished business so they can finally move on. The series also drew attention at the time for its unusual choice of theme songs — both the opening and ending are by the Backstreet Boys — in this heartfelt ghost comedy.
